BLESSING OF A FAMILY MEAL on CHRISTMAS DAY or any other day during the Christmas Season
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 9:6
A child is born to us, a son is given us.
Upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counsellor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast
and forever peaceful.

Let us pray:

We give you thanks,
almighty God,
for the wonder of birth.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus
at Bethlehem,
“House of Bread”,
we ask you to bless the meal
we are about to share.

If God is calling you, call Fr. Hansoo at 416-968-0997 or email vocations@vocations.ca. (Posted: December 24, 2011)

The Nativity of the Lord December 25, 2011
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14)

For two thousand years, we have celebrated this day – and for good reason. This was no ordinary birth! On this day, Jesus, the “bread of God” came “down from heaven and gave life to the world” (John 6:33). So as we celebrate this joyous occasion, let's look a little more closely at the way Jesus gave life to... more details

From the angel Gabriel, Mary heard God's plan for her life and she said, “Yes!”...and so the Saviour came into the world.

4th Sunday of Advent December 18, 2011
God often surprises us with his blessings.

God has a wonderful plan for our lives, and if we are open to him working in our lives, nothing will be out of the realm of possibility.

King David is reminded of this lesson, as we heard in today's first reading. David is very sincere in his desire to provide for the Lord a fitting dwelling place. God basically tells him, through... more details

3rd Sunday of Advent December 11, 2011
We are to strive to be as faithful a witness to Jesus as was John the Baptist.

As we listen to the Gospel this weekend, we hear about John the Baptist. His entire life and mission were caught up in preparing the world for the coming Messiah. He did this by preaching repentance of sin, marked by a baptism with water. So firm... more details

Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick should always take place in the early stages of any serious illness so that it may be received with full, conscious faith and devotion. In this way, the sick as well as their family and friends may truly participate and derive real comfort from the celebration.

The sacrament should be celebrated as early as possible – before there is a sense of crisis. Families should... more details

Is God calling you?
There was a man named John, sent by God, who came as a witness to testify to the Light, so that through this person all people might believe. Is it possible God could be calling your name to witness to the Light of christ in our day?

Repenting when we fail to follow the teachings of Jesus
can bring peace to our hearts.

There is such hopefulness in today's readings. They tell us that the world's waiting and hoping for a messiah is about to come to fruition. God is sending the Saviour. God has not delayed this messianic gift, but has had a plan for the working out of our salvation. As part... more details

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, August 7, 2011

There was a tiny whispering sound. (1 Kings 19:12)

Have you noticed how noisy our world is? We celebrate holidays with ear-shattering fireworks. Young people listen to music so loud that you can't carry on a conversation two rooms away. Television and radio evangelists shout their message at the top of their lungs. Even our cities reverberate with sounds of traffic and construction. In such a noisy environment, it's easy to understand why we might expect God to speak... more details

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. (Romans 8:26)

Have you ever noticed how ready we are to take up one form of prayer – petition - and how uncomfortable we tend to feel about other forms, especially the kind of prayer mentioned in today's second reading? We tend to be very good at asking God for his help or healing, for an end to war and abortion, or for grace... more details

You will receive power...and you will be my witnesses. (Acts 1:8),/strong>

Can you imagine what the apostles must have felt when Jesus made this promise just before he returned to heaven? 6th Sunday of Easter, May 29, 2011
In today's Gospel, Jesus promises that his Spirit will never leave us. While it is true that Jesus of Nazareth is no longer alive in our midst and walking among us, we can experience God's presence. When you feel empty and your soul seems to yearn for more closeness with the Lord, one way to fill that need might be to consciously use your senses.

Jesus leads us to our home in heaven.

In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us several assurances. First, Jesus assures us that we can hope for everlasting life. This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice!

Spiritual Reflection 2nd Sunday of Lent

Lent calls us to be transformed into more Christ-like disciples.

On the mountain, Peter, James and John were witensses to a defining moment in the life of Jesus, his transfiguration. Love your enemies. (Matthew 5:44)

Can you picture getting to heaven, and the first person you meet is the one you liked least on earth? It's possible. After all, God loves that person just as much as he loves you. Trust, hope and patient endurance are often the seeds of new life.

During the month of November, many of the Gospels have an end-of-the-world theme to them. It is important to reflect on these Scriptures because in many ways we live in an environment where we are inundated with end-of-the-world speculation.

Today's Gospel makes two major points about the end of the world. The first lesson is this: Do not interpret the crises of life as if they were the end-of-the-world. When we... more details

Rejoice in the Lord always. Th 1:46
Spiritual Reflection 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 10, 2010

In our desire for salvation there is a starting point; it is the same starting point for everyone. The starting point for salvation is faith. A person must first believe in God – believe in the power of God, the mercy of God, and the goodness of God. As disciples of Jesus, we must be willing students, istening to the words of Jesus as if listening to the voice of... more details

Spiritual Reflection 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 3, 2010
Faith is the gift that calls us to unity with God.

27th Sunday in In the Gospel today we hear the disciples ask for an increase of faith, and Jesus gives them a vivid image-faith the size of a mustard seed is powerful enough to uproot a mulberry tree and toss it into the sea. What does this mean to those who receive such a gift?

When we consider that God created the universe and all good things out of love, that... more details

A Prayer For Our Students, Teachers, Parents & Others Involved In Education
Blessed are you, God our Father, maker of the universe:
you have sent Jesus to be our brother and to save us in your love.

Bless us as we begin this year, and help us in all we do for you.
Let your Holy Spirit give us light, and lead us to you

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Sept. 5, 2010
Jesus challenges us to be certain about our commitment in deciding to be his disciple.

Our first reading today is the author's version of Solomon's prayer for wisdom. It is the Holy Spirit of God by which this wisdom is given as a gift. The commitment to discipleship, and the demands made on the disciples of Christ, are at issue in today's Gospel. Jesus is resolute about his journey to Jerusalem and fulfilling his destiny of being nailed to the Cross; he asks... more details

Spiritual Reflection for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 20, 2010
We know Jesus is the Messiah, but what does that mean in our lives?

We admit that Jesus is the Christ of God, the Messiah who would bring salvation to the world. However, there are many different aspects of who Jesus is, and how he lived his life that may confuse us. There is the lowly and vulnerable Christ Child born in Bethlehem; and then there is the Christ... more details

Sunday of The Most Holy Trinity, May 30, 2010
We celebrate and honour the Trinity – God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity – God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God has one nature, yet at the same time is three distinct persons. The mystery of the Trinity is central to our faith, but it is only by God's self-revelation that we can come to know, in some small measure, who God is.

The Book of Genesis gives... more details

Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 2010 Today we celebrate Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit gave a new sense of empowerment to the Church.
Today we commemorate the birth of the Church. It is Pentecost, the day, some two thousand years ago, when the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles and breathed energy and animation into their faith. It is the day when tongues of fire loosed the tongues of the disciples so they could clearly give voice to the Good News of salvation.

Today we celebrate the day when the Apostles accepted... more details

Sixth Sunday of Easter May 9, 2010
Be at peace with the farewells you must make.

The early believers accepted Jesus' leaving through death, his reappearance in resurrection, his leaving through his ascension, and his continued presence in the Holy Spirit. Today's reading from Acts reveals a lack of peace in the community at Antioch concerning Gentile converts and adherence to Mosaic law. The Apostles made their case based on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and end their letter to the Gentiles with... more details

Fourth Sunday of Easter April 25, 2010
The love of Christ knows no bounds, like that of a shepherd for his flock.

One of the most prominent images of Jesus is that of the Good Shepherd. This image of Jesus is based on the way he treated all people—he sought them out when they were lost in sin, he freed them from the power of evil, he healed them of their infirmities. Ultimately, the love of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was so great that he gave his life for his... more details

Reflection for Third Sunday of Easter April 18, 2010
Do you love me? (John 21:15)

Jesus' questioning of Peter in such a direct way was not intended to make Peter feel guilty. And neither was it an ego trip for the Lord. Jesus didn't need Peter's love to feel better about himself. He already knew – better than Peter himself – how much Peter loved him. Rather, Jesus wanted Peter to reach deep within himself and see how much love for... more details

Our Lady of Lourdes - In 1858, in a grotto, near Lourdes in southern France, Our Lady appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl. She revealed herself as the Immaculate Conception, asked that a chapel be built on the site of the vision, and told the girl to drink from a fountain in the grotto. When Bernadette dug at a spot designated by the apparition, a spring began to flow. The water from this still flowing spring has shown remarkable healing power, though it contains no curative property that science can identify. Lourdes has become the most famous modern shrine of Our Lady.
