Spiritual Reflection

April 23, 2010

Fourth Sunday of Easter April 25, 2010
The love of Christ knows no bounds, like that of a shepherd for his flock.

One of the most prominent images of Jesus is that of the Good Shepherd. This image of Jesus is based on the way he treated all people—he sought them out when they were lost in sin, he freed them from the power of evil, he healed them of their infirmities. Ultimately, the love of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was so great that he gave his life for his sheep – for us.

How remarkable is the choice Jesus made to be our shepherd and to care so lovingly for us. He suffered hardship and pain to bring us back to the Father. He held nothing back, giving his all for us.

Today we are reminded to listen to the voice of Jesus. He feeds us, his lambs, through his teachings and through the Eucharist. Like the shepherd who calls his sheep, the voice of Jesus is distinct, unlike any other. It is the only voice we are to follow. His voice is calling each one of us. Are we listening?

Our Lady of Lourdes - In 1858, in a grotto, near Lourdes in southern France, Our Lady appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl. She revealed herself as the Immaculate Conception, asked that a chapel be built on the site of the vision, and told the girl to drink from a fountain in the grotto. When Bernadette dug at a spot designated by the apparition, a spring began to flow. The water from this still flowing spring has shown remarkable healing power, though it contains no curative property that science can identify. Lourdes has become the most famous modern shrine of Our Lady.
